6/25/22 - 6/29/22: A Recap

Hey guys, sorry for not posting for so long, I've just been caught up with a lot of other stuff that I didn't even think to write a blog each day to tell what was goin on.
Instead of writing each day out though, I'll provide a recap of some cool stuff that hapenned over the past 4 days (and I'll also update later today once the day's over to provide at least ONE full blog).

6/25/22

The main thing that hapenned on Saturday was that I got a new Ipad! I gave my old one to my mom's boyfriend cus he wanted to convert it into a more family-oriented ipad instead of just my ipad, and with a little help from me and my mom, the three of us got me a new iPad air. Although to get it I did have to contribute all of my birthday money (which was around $240) and now I'm broke, but I was gonna save up for an Ipad anyway so it's alright. I also got the two pens that I bought for my og ipad to finally work on the new ipad (which the new one is specifically an ipad air, greate for aerodynamimcs), and along with procreate and an ibis paint no ads purchase I'd say I can do my non-pixel art quite well now!

Along with today consisting of me mostly playing terraria and pvz2 grind thousand, I also had my first Teen Counseling session today. I would say it went extremely well, the therapist was very nice, and I also like the feature of just typing out everything, because I don't really wanna show my face or voice chat because that requires me to stay at the computer at all times (and I just don't really like face chat in general). Besides that though it was just me at hone most of the day. I will say though only me being home all day is kind of a double edged sword; although I can do most of the crap that I want to do in peace (I still do have to tend to my chores but that I can do anyday with ease), but it just feels kinda lonely, with only my cats and dog to keep me company.
If anything, I don't think I'd last being the last person on earth if it ever comes down to that.

Honestly nothing that substantial hapenned on Monday, I mainly just played Terraria and PVZ2 Grind Thousand for most of the day. I did tried switching to Firefox because Chrome is kinda stinky because it takes up a lot of my memory, but I switched back to Chrome quite quickly because I didn't like that I couldn't really use my no-ad google chrome extensions.(Plus firefox sent me an email telling me to stop sending emails to myself and I simply just did not allow that).
Now that I think of it I'd say the most substantial thing that hapenned today was that I started a godot platformer tutorial series, I got about two videos in before I went to bed. I also got some help from my friend Mad Jinjo, and I got the basic movement keys setup in a second test project. (I will say once I actually figured out how to use key inputs it wasn't the hardest thing in the world lol)

The main thing that hapenned yesterday was that I continued on the godot tutorial series, I got to the third video but for some reason the code wasn't working, even though I copied it to a tee. Thankfully Mad Jinjo helped me out a bit and he pointed out that I just needed to delete two lines of code to get the entire thing working, I dunno what I'd do without him honestly.
I also did a crap ton of Blinky concept art yesterday, here's one of them to show that I am indeed finally thinking outside of the Grease Monkey facility.

I will say though, the lore and main core concepts of Blinky have changed in my eyes quite drastically over the past few days, now that I have no one to stop me besides myself. While I do enjoy the constructive criticism I do get on the social medias, taking the liberty to just go with what I feel is right is also pretty nice.
Also, the lore is now at LEAST 75% less edgy. It's also gotten a bit more simplistic, and I think that's for the better. Over the course of the past few days I've really been thinking about other lore driven games, the main two being Hello Neighbor and the FNAF series, and honestly the main things I assume the players get from those games isn't mainly the gameplay, but the lore. Especially Hello Neighbor, they chased after that Game Theory video like a mouse on a wheel, endlessly trying to run and catch the small block of cheese sitting right in front of their nose.
Because of this I've decided to simplify the lore of Blinky a bit, making the general lore less dark in tone and also easier to understand (at least I hope). I don't want to be chasing after that Game Theory video, I don't want people to just look at Blinky and only think of the lore behind it. I want people to look at Blinky and say "Hey, that game was pretty alright. The lore was also cool too, not too much." If I can get at least a few people to say that, I know I accomplished my goal of actually making Blinky a game I can really be proud of.
(Also a quick side note, I don't think a lot of my other games or future projects will have super huge and complex lores either. Although I do like writing stories, I'll just save writing full novels for full novels, not a game that I don't think I could provide the lore in in a good, not-that-complicated way. Like, has anyone ever really put together the lore of FNAF or Hello Neighbor that everyone could agree on?)
Alright, my whole rant on why my games won't have huge lore is over. I'll just move onto today now.

So the first thing that I really did today was that I did some more Blinky concept art, mainly on how the hubs should look. Here was the main thing of it.

Right now I'm currently thinking of structuring the hub kinda of like how Super Mario World and Super Mario 3D World did them, with a bunch of different environments, with the levels represented with little circles. I'm also planning that a bit of info on each level will show when you're on the dot, which hopefully won't be that much to the point of just having gui to have gui (but I don't think that'll be an issue).

So today I'd say was also a bit uneventful, but I did get two of the new enemies I showed above animted, being Banto and Leaf Guy. Banto took a good 20 or so minutes, Leaf Guy tookk a good TWO HOURS. Btw here he is!!! (Sharing his animations early because I'm quite proud of how I executed them)

I think I'll code the two tonight and then post about them tomorrow, I'll even load up vimeo again and might even make a new tileset for the occasion. But until then, that'll be all for now. Instead of a cat picture for today, here's this picture of Toad. Tbh he's one of my favorite mario characters, especially in the more modern Paper Mario games like Color Splash and Origami King, where his writing is extremely good, and usually not something you'd be seein from Nintendo.

Finished writing at 7:01 pm. Stay fresh, y'all!
